Polish Silver

12/10/2009

Recently in Polish city Ostrow Wilkopolski football tournament “Eurofan-2009: Ostrow Wielkopolski” took place for the first time in Poland. This tournament is a result of an international agreement signed in November 2007 between the Mayor of Lviv Mr Sadovyi and the Mayor of Ostrow Wielkopolski Mr Torzynski. Whereas Mr Sadovyi didn’t go to Poland, representatives of Lviv fans’ movement could not miss such an opportunity. First in October 2008 their team “reinforced” by workers of Lviv City Council played a friendly game with fans of local FC “Ostrovia” (1:1), and this year in September all-ultras squad took part in 2-day2-long fans’ tournament.
Apart from fans of FC “Karpaty” also fans’ teams of “Lech” Poznan, local “Ostrovia” and German club “Nordhausen” took part in a tournament (round-robin system).
In the first game “Karpaty” won in the game against “Lech” 8:2 despite the fact they conceded a self-goal in the 2nd minute. If it wasn’t for a referee, which started to whistle off-side after the 10th goal, Lviv duo of strikers Jordan and Butthead could have scored at least the same number of goals more.
     Afterwards “Ostrovia” and “Nordhausen” played
2:0.
By the way, official opening of the pitch, on which the tournament games were consequently played, took place right after the first game. An artificial grass pitch (6588 m2) was built for the local school ¹4 at the cost of the local City Council’s budget (about 500 000 Euro). Apart from the Mayor (which appeared to be wearing a jersey of FC “Karpaty”, which he received as a gift a year ago), the Head of the Regional Football Federation, presidents of both local football clubs i.e. “Ostrovia” and “Centra” also took place in the opening ceremony.
Then again amateur players stepped on the pitch. First local Council workers played against journalists, the latter team won quite easily. After that “Ostrovia” beat “Lech” 4:0.
Actually the match “Karpaty” v “Nordhausen” turned out to be the final match of the tournament. The Germans won 5:3.
That’s how the first day passed. In the evening fans had enough time to get acquainted with each other and the city.
The second day of the tournament started with a match “Nordhausen” v “Lech”, which ended with a final score 6:1. In the last game the host team tried to get a second place but “Karpaty” fans didn’t agree and won 10:2
The final table of the tournament’s fixtures and results looked like this:

                                 P   W  D  L   S   Pt

1. “Nordhausen”          4   4  0  0  13:4   9
